Myth #2: All Synthetic Turf is Easy to Install

We are continuing to bust myths surrounding the synthetic turf industry. Last week, I wrote that all reputable synthetic turf brands provide 2 items – the turf itself and the installation of said turf – and to avoid brands which do not install turf in-house. Why is this important, and how does it relate to myths about turf installation? Before I answer these questions, allow me to explain our installation process.
Our installation process consists of 4 items: excavation, base, perimeter, turf. First, excavation is the dig-out. We excavate anywhere from 3”-7” of topsoil, depending on the turf product chosen. Second, we install the rock-aggregate base using ¼” to ¾” size stones, depending on the turf product chosen. This process may also involve installing safety-foam for our PlaygroundGrass line, and the GolfGreens line may require a thin layer of granite fines. Third, we secure the perimeter using spikes or boards (usually plastic lumber since it does not rot). This depends on the product chosen, who will be using the turf, and what the client ultimately wants. Fourth, we lay out, design/cut, seam-glue, and secure into the perimeter, the turf product chosen.
Now, back to my first question: It is important that turf dealerships install their own product because it is a unique process requiring trained professionals. This answer helps us bust several myths about installation. First, many people have an inaccurate picture in their minds of the installation process, often thinking they can either do it themselves or hire someone to do it. Second, many people have an over-simplified view of the installation and so balk at the cost of doing it in-house. Third, many people think that all turf dealerships install using the same process. I can attest from my own experience that this is not the case. I have seen other jobs where it is clear the install team cut corners, set a bad aggregate base, and sloppily glued the turf. All these myths have one common fallacy: they fail to see the long-term investment of having a ForeverLawn dealership install the turf. Trying to save costs up-front on installation almost always creates frustration at wasted time and, in the end, a bad installation.
Finally, what is it about our installation process outlined above that makes ForeverLawn stand out? It’s helpful to imagine the installation as a golden chain. Each of the four stages or “links” connect to one another. If you omit or degrade one stage or “link,” the entire installation or “chain” falls apart. Our excavation creates enough room for the aggregate base to provide stability for the lifespan of the turf. We ensure the base consists of the rock type which helps maximize the usability and durability of the turf. We use precise measurements to best align the ordered square footage with the designated shape of the final product, and secure that final product with safety and immutability.
Purchasing turf is a long-term investment that deserves the best installation. ForeverLawn Low Country distinguishes itself by providing just that.
