Myth #1: All Synthetic Turf Is The Same

One piece of advice seasoned parents give new parents is, “Just wait until the next child because they’re all different!” They usually give this advice unsolicited, and it can be quite unsettling. Mulling it over, however, reveals its practical wisdom: there is no cookie cutter approach to a child’s personality, and parenting in this way invites difficulties. Young parents must recognize the core fact that all their children will tick differently, and that fact in large measure decides how they approach their growth.
The same piece of advice may be said about brands of synthetic turf: they are all different! Many prospective clients buy into the myth that all synthetic turf is the same, and this invites difficulties into their project. What are the commonalities and differences between brands of synthetic turf? All reputable synthetic turf brands provide 2 items: the turf itself (composed of the backing and blades) and the installation of said turf. How does ForeverLawn position itself among these brands?
The quality of the turf product runs on a sliding scale. Some brands provide the bare minimum backing needed, typically 15-20oz of urethane. ForeverLawn’s market position is unique in that we provide a patented triple-layer backing on our products. What does this mean for the client? It means that the product has stability, cushion, and durability over the long-haul, reflected in our warranty system. In addition to the backing, turf blades have evolved from the abrasive astro-turf of the 1970s. ForeverLawn is unique in that we use varied materials (polyethylene, textured nylon, heat-resistant fibers, memory fibers) made in several ways (slit film, monofilament). What does this mean for the client? It means that we have turf products for almost any conceivable situation the client may want it for, including: LandscapeGrass, K9 Grass, PlaygroundGrass, GolfGreens, SportsGrass, BocceGrass, PickleballGrass, and EquineGrass. There are many different functional and aesthetic options within those ForeverLawn brand names, all made to fit the client’s wishes.
Not all synthetic turf brands provide installation in-house. This does not necessarily imply the turf product is sub-par, but it does mean that the turf may be installed wrong and, as a result, its long-term performance will suffer. My advice is to avoid such brands, but more to come on this in next week’s post. ForeverLawn positions itself as an in-house installer. Every dealership installs its own turf – period. We have a proven installation system that is adaptable to each dealership. Our Low Country dealership is unique in that our owner, Jen Grimes, is also our lead installer. What does this mean for the client? It means they can have peace of mind knowing that we will install our turf product the right way, and if any issues arise in the installation process, we have none other than our owner herself who will see to it that the problem is resolved.
Just as there is no cookie cutter approach to raising kids, so it is with buying synthetic turf. If a prospective client considers these differences and partners with us, they are ensuring their project’s long-term success and, in turn, their own happiness. Next week, we will consider the second myth surrounding synthetic turf: the installation process.
